As most of you probably know by now, turquoise is the color of the year for 2010. In an effort to remain stylish this year, I have done quite a bit of searching around for turquoise items and am amazed at the beautiful products I have found along the way! This is the first in the Stylish and Sleek series, showcasing gorgeous turquoise items for your office or workspace. These are all a great way to add some color to a bland office, or help clear some clutter off your desktop! This isn’t really Part II of my Then and Now, but I did want to show you a sneak peek of what I’ve began developing with my very first illustrations and stationery. The stationery will be shown in its full capacity, and available for purchase, on my one year Etsy anniversary on March 15! Be sure to stay tuned here, my Etsy shop, and Facebook for updates and anniversary specials. You never know…I may do a different special with a different coupon code in each place!

So without further ado….

Sneak Peek

And don’t forget, these images you see here, along with the rest of the initial illustrations I did many years ago, will be up for grabs on March 15!

The other day, amidst a fun conversation on Twitter with fellow stationer Ruby Wren, I had the pleasure of learning what got her started in her gorgeous stationery business. I saw a sweet photo of one of her first greeting cards she illustrated, and it got me thinking about how DawnCorrespondence started many years ago. For one thing I was jobless, broke, and had every intention of being fully happy with the route I chose to take. I wasn’t going to settle. I started brewing up some miniature illustrations that sort of just expanded into stationery along the way. In fact, I can tell you exactly where I was sitting when these illustrations started frantically going from my brain to the paper to the computer. I can tell you what I was wearing, too. I can even tell you the weather and what was on TV in the background. I just knew I was having an aha! moment that would change the rest of my life. While I look back on these mini illustrations and laugh a little now, I also have to look at them with fondness because that is what ultimately got me started.

The reason I am choosing to share these little images with you is because I had an aha! moment all over again, thanks to that fun, quick conversation with Ruby Wren. To be honest with you, I had buried these images. I only knew what disc they were saved on so that I would know not to pick that disc up and look on it. I chose to look at them over the weekend, and my creative energy was flooded with ideas all over again, just like it was when I first started. So, this is Part I of Then and Now. Part II will be the concepts from these greeting cards in my current style. I’m really excited to bring back the early wonder and energy into my current line. (Side Note: The images were meant to be really tiny with lots of surrounding white space, so that’s why they are so small. See below for the sentiments on each card) So without further ado…

Then and Now: Part I

(Sentiments from top left):

“I messed up.”

“Happy pearls and tuxedo day.”

“Congratulations with a cherry on top.”

“Congratulations on your new sweet pea.”

“Happy cake and ice cream day.”

“Wishing you were here.”

What about you? How did you get started in your crafting business? Or how did you stumble upon crafting as a source of purchases? I’d love to hear your stories, and I’m sure everyone else would too, so let’s share with one another!

As a visual person I, of course, like looking at all things lovely. I am also lucky enough to have some delightful Etsy friends who sell beautifully gorgeous work. Not only do these individuals have beautiful souls and artwork, but they also have a knack for marketing, whether they know it or not. I would recognize any of these sellers’ work anywhere – off Etsy or on. They are active in the handmade community, and have a wonderful sense of branding about them. The reason for this true success is that these sellers are passionate about what they do. For that reason, these sellers inspire me, encourage me, and motivate me to continue fulfilling my dream of passion and loveliness.

In honor of my delightful Etsy friends, I leave you with bounds of loveliness. I encourage you to take a moment to visit some or all of these beautifully designed shops. Which creations are your favorites?
