This year Richmond has seen more snow than it’s probably seen in years. This weekend included. As I write this, I am staring at over a foot of snow when all I really want is the warmth, the sun, and the breeze of the springtime air. And just as good as the warm weather that accompanies spring is the freedom of flowing dresses, tanks, and skirts. It’s so much nicer than being confined to sweaters, heavy jackets, and boots, don’t you think?

I’ve recently become enamored with the creativity and talent that Etsy fashion designers have after my interview with Minx last week. I did some perusing and found some Spring fashions that I am swooning over right now. I certainly hope Punxsutawny has some good weather news for us this Tuesday.

Spring Fashion

  1. 7 Ways to Wear Wrap Jersey Dress in Berry by Lirola
  2. Magenta and Blue Necklush by Necklush
  3. Soo Shirt by LJLambillotte
  4. Flora Tank by Eliza and Axel

I am loving the soft, feminine colors from each of these Etsy sellers. Be sure to check out there shops to see what other lovely items they have to offer!

Lately, I’ve really been into using scribbles and organic lines as art. I think it brings a fun aspect to all sorts of mediums, and there’s so many different things you can do with them. A couple of months ago, I first got into using scribbles in my artwork because I was in a creative slump I had a burst of inspiration. I wanted to do something new, and fresh, and fun. What’s more fun than being carefree with our artwork, like a child?? You’ll notice several new designs in my Etsy shop that incorporate the scribble theme, and surprisingly I am not alone! Here are some of my favorite scribble-infused items.

Scribbles

  1. Vintage Tribal Mini Dress and Scarf – Persephone Vintage
  2. Medium Altered Bowl – Me Pottery
  3. Battle of Pink and Red – Kate Merritt Davis
  4. Inky Scribble Necklace – e Rosas Jewelry

I encourage each of you to take a step back and be playful with your work. Whether it be with scribbles, or with another innovative idea you may have, don’t ever forget to have fun with what you are creating! Isn’t that why us artists got into this business to begin with?

I’ve been really excited this week to introduce this fab designer and Etsy seller to you! I first discovered Minx Shop last week when I was creating a treasury (which made it the front page by the way!). I was so intrigued by Minx’ work that I started browsing around her shop, and we began chatting back and forth. What a cute, spunky girl she is! And her photos are absolutely gorgeous (of course! That’s what drew me to her for my treasury-making!). Let’s take a little peak into the life of Minx….

Minx

When did you go into business for yourself?

Long, long ago when I was in college, I needed to buy food! Food comes in very handy when you are doing things such as studying and not starving. One day a dear friend of mine showed me that you could sell vintage clothes on Ebay for extra cash. In the desire to make things better, I started altering the vintage, and then eventually started altering t-shirts as well. I realized one day that the t-shirt were taken so far from their original t-shirt state, that they were essentially fabric scraps by the time I got done. At that point I realized there was no reason I couldn’t start making clothes from scratch. So I did, and I liked it a lot. It gave me a lot more freedom to invent. I like inventing.

I think I had a little too much fun with my recent treasury I curated. As I began choosing the items that I wanted to use in my treasury, I started formulating a short story that goes a little like this…
[The Little Ninja That Could]

Ninja sees girl.
Ninja falls in love with girl.
Ninja buys girl a ring.
Ninja enlists spy to protect girl.
Ninja and spy prepare for cold trip ahead chasing girl.
Ninja photographs girl’s beauty while chasing her East to West.
Ninja gets panicked and confused at busy train station.
Ninja finds correct train in nick of time.
Spy leaves ninja to get girl on his own.
Girl’s purse gets stolen.
Ninja fights robber.
“It’s not yours!”
Ninja gets purse and finds girl.
Ninja and girl are separated briefly by a flock of birds.
Ninja returns girl’s purse.
Girl falls for ninja.
LOVE WINS.
[the end]

Dorky? Yes. Awesome? YES, because LOVE WINS.

Hope you enjoyed!
